Paediatrics focuses on looking after children from babies to teenagers. This includes general and surgical care, for minor, acute and complex needs.

Candover Clinic is able to offer treatments and investigations of a wide range of Paediatric care including asthma and allergies. Our child-friendly outpatient department has a separate children’s waiting area with a selection of toys and books for the children to use during their appointment.

Candover Clinic is the only private hospital in the area able to offer paediatric private surgery.

Consultant Paediatrician’s are able to offer specialist treatment of the following:

 

  • Respiratory problems such as asthma and chronic cough
  • Allergy investigations for nut, cows milk and egg allergy
  • Rheumatological problems such as arthritis
  • Skin conditions including eczema

Paediatric Respiratory

Within our in-house Paediatric service, we offer FeNO (fractional exhaled nitric oxide) and Spirometry tests. These non-invasive tests are used to help diagnose and monitor ongoing treatments for lung conditions such as asthma.

What is Spirometry:

 

  • A lung function test that measures how much air a child can breathe in and out
  • It checks how well the lungs are working
  • The test can detect if a child’s airways are inflamed or narrowed
  • It can help diagnose conditions like asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  • It can help monitor these conditions to see how well treatments are working
  • The test involves taking a deep breath in and blowing in to a tube

 

What is FeNO:

 

  • A non-invasive test that measures the amount of nitric oxide in a child’s breath
  • Nitric oxide is a biomarker for asthma which can indicate the level of inflammation in the lungs
  • This can help diagnose and monitor lung conditions such as asthma
  • The test can indicate inflammation in a child’s airways
  • The test involves taking a deep breath and gently breathing out into a mouthpiece for approximately 10 seconds
  • The test is much easier to do than other asthma tests such as a peak flow
  • The test produces a FeNO score that gives a value to the level of inflammation which can then aid in the diagnosis of asthma
