Minor Procedures Unit

Situated onsite in our outpatients department is the Minor Procedures Unit. This compact surgical operating space allows minor theatre procedures to take place under local anaesthetic.

The theatre space is optimally filtered which provides an ultra clean environment suitable for minor surgeries such as skin lesion removal. The operating area utilises a laminar-flow technique which allows ultra clean air flow to be directed to the operating surface.

In addition to the new theatre space, the department also has two comfortable patient recovery rooms.

Procedures available

The following procedures can be carried out in our Minor Procedures Unit:

  • Skin lesion removal
  • Cystoscopy
  • Varicose vein treatment
  • Vasectomy

.

Patient Benefit

The Minor Procedures Unit allows patients to be seen in a designated time slot for a walk-in, walk-out procedure. Due to the nature of the environment for some procedures, patients are not even required to change out of their day clothes. As all procedures that take place in this theatre space are carried out under local anaesthetic, the patient is not required to stay for a long period of time after the procedure and can return home.

Patient Eligibility

To be eligible for a procedure within our Minor Procedures unit the patient must be aged 16 years of age and over. The patient must also be fully independent and mobile and be suitable for a procedure under local anaesthetic only.
