Pregnancy Scanning

This service offers expectant parents the opportunity to receive an ultrasound scan in a comfortable, supportive environment. We understand that pregnancy is a special and often anxious time. These scans are in addition to the routine scans provided by the NHS. It is an exciting opportunity to “meet” your baby before birth. All scans will take place in the Sherborne building at Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital, carried out by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust staff.

Early Reassurance scan (6-15 weeks)
Early pregnancy can be a worrying time. To help reduce any anxieties you may have, we offer the option of a reassurance scan between 6 and 15 weeks. This will check your baby’s heartbeat and you will be provided with a brief wellbeing report. In some instances, a transvaginal pregnancy scan will be required in order to obtain better image quality. Your sonographer will discuss the need for this if it arises on the day of the scan, and will seek consent from you.
Gender scan (from 16 weeks)
If you are eager to learn the sex of your baby, we can determine this for you with 97% accuracy from 16 weeks gestation.
Growth and wellbeing scan (from 16 weeks)
This reassurance scan is offered to check on your baby’s growth and heartbeat during this interim period, giving you peace of mind. You will be provided with a wellbeing report.
3D/4D scan (24-34 weeks)
A 3D/4D scan is an exciting way to bond and “meet” your baby before birth. You may even catch a glimpse of your baby moving, yawning, smiling or sucking their thumb in live motion. A growth and well-being scan and report will be provided. If sufficient images are not achieved, a follow-up scan will be provided.

- Once you have reserved your appointment, please follow the instructions in the email confirmation you receive, to complete the registration agreement
- You will be required to make full payment over the phone and provide necessary full contact details
- Following this, your appointment will be confirmed
- Your scan will take place in the antenatal clinic on the Ground Floor, Antenatal Clinic, Sherborne building at Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital. Parking is complimentary in the Sherborne building car park. Directions will be provided at the time of booking
How do I get the result?
A smart phone is required, your report and images will be transferred via a QR code at the end of the scan and a printed report will be provided. Any abnormalities or concerns will be directed to the preferred NHS Trust by the Sonographer. A further scan will be provided if sufficient images are not obtained within the 3D/4D scans.
