Mr Steven Arnold

Mr Steven Arnold qualified from Guy’s and St. Thomas’ in 1997. He obtained a Masters degree with Distinction at Imperial College/Hammersmith Hospital, University of London, in September 2002, with research into the molecular changes in inflammatory bowel disease. Subsequently, he underwent training as a Specialist Registrar in the Wessex Region between 2003 and 2008. Mr Arnold has extensive laparoscopic colorectal interests, having been awarded the Ethicon National Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship at Frimley Park in 2008, and was subsequently appointed Covidien Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellow at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Foundation Trust. In 2009, he took up his post of Consultant General and Colorectal Surgery, and also became a National Trainer in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery, training other UK consultants. For the last 6 years, Mr Arnold has been the lead clinician for colorectal cancer at Basingstoke and is the local representative for the Wessex Alliance Colorectal Network Site Specific Group. Throughout his consultant career, he has taught and lectured (both nationally and internationally) on surgical techniques to deal with colorectal conditions, and continues to publish and present in his specialist field.

Mr Arnold’s special interests are in laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and treating benign colorectal conditions, including haemorrhoids, fistulas, and pilonidal disease. He also introduced a novel technique (TEMS) to Basingstoke, which is used to remove larger rectal polyps using minimal access surgery. More generally, he also has a special interest in keyhole hernia repair and day surgery.

Mr Arnold is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Foundation Trust and one of eight specialist Partners of Basingstoke Colorectal.
