Dr Bashir Alaour

Dr Alaour was awarded the prestigious British Cardiac Intervention Society International Fellowship to train in Structural Intervention at Bern University Hospital, Switzerland, which hosts one of the top and leading Structural Intervention centres in the world. Supervised by world-leading cardiologists in the field, he trained in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), Transcatheter Mitral and Tricuspid Valve Repair and Replacement, Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve Implantation, and Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion.
After the completion of this fellowship, he returned to the UK to establish and lead the Structural Heart Valve Intervention service at Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust, in collaboration with the University Hospital Southampton and the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals (London).

He is also trained in General Cardiology and in Interventional Cardiology (management of ischaemic heart disease including medical and percutaneouscoronary intervention PCI). and experienced in the investigation and management of a wide spectrum of cardiac symptoms and conditions.

He was awarded a PhD in Cardiology from King’s College London and has an extensive research experience in both basic science and clinical cardiology. He completed a prestigious research programme funded by the highly competitive British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Training Fellowship scheme, which is awarded to a small number of researchers per year. He pioneered a diagnostic method for the detection of quantification of a special protein in the blood for the early and accurate diagnosis of heart attack, an ongoing project that he continues to work on.

He published numerous peer reviewed papers in leading international science and clinical cardiology journals, and continues to lead and conduct basic science and clinical cardiology studies in collaboration with distinguished national and international researchers in the fields.
