Cardiology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the heart. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease and electrophysiology.
Doctors who specialise in cardiac surgery are called cardiothoracic surgeons or cardiac surgeons, a branch of general surgery. Cardiologists investigate, diagnose, prevent and treat problems with the heart and blood vessels. These problems can range from the management of cholesterol and blood pressure to treatment of life-threatening arrhythmias or coronary artery disease.
Private cardiology services at Candover Clinic provide excellent care for all conditions affecting the heart. All non-invasive diagnostic cardiothoracic investigations such as treadmill exercise tests and echocardiographs are performed within Candover Clinic. There are state-of-the-art imaging facilities with 3D echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance scanning on site.
Inpatient care includes diagnostic coronary angiograms and angioplasties/stent insertion. Other services include the implantation of pacemakers and complex devices such as implantable defibrillators and biventricular pacemakers.
Inpatients are treated in the Rotherwick Foundation Cardiac Unit which includes a cardiac catheter lab and fully equipped coronary care unit (CCU). Candover Clinic is able to offer specialist cardiology treatment of the following:
