Neurology is the study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the nervous system. This includes conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles. Long term neurological conditions include motor neuron disease, dementia, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.
The most common problems diagnosed and treated are epilepsy, migraine and other headache disorders, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.
Neurologists will spend most of their clinical time in outpatient clinics. Inpatients will be seen by request of other consultants. Muscle and nerve biopsies can be undertaken.
