Elderly care consists of managing the care of patients with cognitive impairment due to stroke and dementia and acute confusion, mental health issues and social care needs. The consultants will investigate the following symptoms in elderly patients; syncope, tremor, unsteadiness, dizzy spells, generalised slowing down, memory dysfunction and lethargy.

Special attention is given to ensuring patients’ nutritional needs are met, the highest standards of care is given ensuring that all patients are treated with dignity and respect. In line with the National Service Framework for Older People, there is an important focus on falls prevention and falls management. Falls can lead to injury and loss of confidence. The risk of falls must be balanced against the need to promote rehabilitation and independence for the patient.
